The ceremonial signing of the agreement for the project between  Weglokoks Energia  and  the Elemont - Ferox-Energia  consortium took place on 8 October in Katowice. The subject of the contract is the construction of a new energy facility in the Wirek district of Ruda Śląska. The cogeneration system will consist of two gas engines (high-efficiency cogeneration), three gas boilers and a range of auxiliary equipment and installations. The total electrical capacity of the facility will be 8.8 MW, while its thermal capacity will be 16.1 MW.

This investment implies a complete change in the fuel used to produce heat and a change in the technology used. The existing hard coal-fired heating plant, consisting of five water-fired, grate-fired boilers, is currently operated at this location. This district heating plant will be shut down after many years of service to the local community. The new energy facility will operate as a primary source in the main heating system of the city of Ruda Śląska, allowing its full potential to be utilized.

A positive environmental effect will be achieved by burning natural gas and reducing the burning of coal. The amount of harmful substances emitted into the environment will be significantly lower (particularly with regard to sulphur dioxide and dust emissions).

The consortium of "ELEMONT" Sp. z o.o. and "FEROX-ENERGY- SYSTEMS" Sp. z o.o. became the main contractor for this investment. As part of the project, Węglokoks Energia ZCP purchased the 12-year servicing for the cogeneration engines. As part of the project, Węglokoks Energia ZCP purchased the 12-year servicing for the cogeneration engines. The total investment for this project is PLN 85.22 million gross.
