On 19 February this year a ceremonial signing of an agreement took place between a company from the capital group Energetyka Cieplna Opolszczyzny, namely ECO Kogeneracja sp. z o.o. and Consortium of Elemont Sp. z o.o. - KWE AB Poland Sp. z o.o. The project involves the construction of a modern cogeneration source in Opole in Harcerska Street. The facility is based on the operation of three high-performance gas engines fired by the so-called blue fuel i.e. natural gas.
The new plant will produce a total of 8MW of thermal and electrical power and will operate at base load practically all year round covering the demand of 15% of all system heat for the residents of Opole.
A positive environmental effect will be achieved with the project that is about to begin, as the new plant has low CO2 emissions to the environment and zero emissions of dust compounds and acidic SO2 compounds. In addition, the energy produced will allow ECO to reduce the number of coal-fired boilers currently in operation, which is an important step towards achieving climate neutrality.
The contractor for this project will be a consortium of Elemont Sp. z o.o. - KWE Ab Energy Polska sp. z o.o.
Elemont is an engineering and construction company based in Opole, Poland, which has been implementing complex projects in the energy, industrial and environmental sectors for over 30 years. During this time, the Company has participated in the construction of more than 7,500 MW of newly generated capacity, both in conventional power generation, cogeneration and renewable energy sources.
KWE Ab Energy Polska sp. z o.o. will supply containerised systems of 3 cogeneration systems with a total capacity of 8 MW electric and thermal power.
The commissioning of the new plant is planned for November 2022.
